Nicholas Koby

Born in 2001, in Tucson, Arizona Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York

Harvesting from art history, Koby explores thresholds and the state of the in-between. The curtain motif flickers between light and dark, outside and inside. Acting as a screen, it conceals and protects, or lifts and reveals. Dark, repetitious stripes taken to a monumental scale hint at the void, interrupted by a semicircle marking error. In both instances, the veil evokes anticipation of what lies beyond.

Nicholas Koby holds a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from the University of Victoria and an MFA in Studio Practice from New York University. Koby is the recipient of the NYU Artistic Practice Award, Takao Tanabe Award in Visual Arts, and the Butterfield Scholarship in Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited in group and solo shows in Victoria and New York.
